In the Q-Box: Monique Vukovic

This one-act adaptation of Hamlet re-imagines Shakespeare's 400-year-old tragedy, and lands it in the 21st century. Lines and characters are rearranged to tell the story of Claudius, who oversees the prison where Hamlet is being held for murder, and cruelly interrogated. Security cameras watch his every move as Hamlet plots revenge against his father's assassins.

Bound in a Nutshell's actress Monique Vukovic steps into this special Fringe-inspired Q-Box to answer our always informative, albeit mostly ridiculous, questions.
What's the best thing about Fringe?
The fact that so many artists are doing what they love to do.

What's the #1 reason people should come see your show?
It's directed by Gregory Wolfe.

Do you have any opening-night rituals?
Not really. Same for every performance -- vocal warm-up, chant for giving away a great show, and a wish to all for a great show.

What are the craziest performance conditions you've had to work under?
I once made an exit greeted by a rat. I still can't believe I didn't scream.

How did you get involved with the arts?
After reading and loving Carson McCullers' The Member of the Wedding, I saw the film version with Julie Harris. Watching her I knew that's what I wanted/had to do. Being extremely shy, it took me awhile before I got the courage to pursue it.

THE STATS:

High school attended:
Oakwood in Dayton, Ohio

Favorite Class:
Toss up depending on the day -- math, science, English

Next-up on Netflix queue:
An Inconvenient Truth, though it's next up on the library queue. I don't have Netflix.

Playing on your iPod right now:
Antony and the Johnsons

Favorite pizza topping:
Mushrooms

Last good book you read:
Nature Girl by Carl Hiaasen

All-time, hands-down favorite piece of theater:
I've been lucky enough to have seen the likes of Julie Harris, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, and Vanessa Redgrave on stage and was awed and inspired by each of them. But what has stayed with me many years later is The Medium by Anne Bogart which I saw at the New York Theatre Workshop. Incredible.

Actor with least-bad portrayal of the title character in Batman:
I must confess I've not seen any of them.
